This crochet hula hoop mandala project marks day three of adapting Helen Shrimpton’s Sacred Space Blanket design using sturdy Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton yarn.

Watching this piece grow has completely solidified why I love detailed, high-concentration crochet projects. Reaching the third day of stitches brought me to a gorgeous, deep mustard-gold row that beautifully breaks up the cooler blues and grays of the center, followed by a heavily textured navy border. Letting the yarn selections happen completely on the fly without overthinking the final layout continues to be the ultimate calming, meditative exercise after a busy day.

Amazon mostly sells digital counters and I don't love them. There isnt a replaceable battery so if I put down a WIP with its counter and don't pick it up in 3 months, I worry the counter is dead. In order to wake up the screen, you have to click the button but it is the same button that you click to add a row. I worry as soon as I push it to wake it up that I have also pushed it to add a row. The digital ones are much less expensive but I prefer these mechanical ones.
