Making Waves (and Borders) 🌊 Day 2 Hula Hoop Crocheted Mandala

Completed June 2026

This crochet hula hoop mandala project marks day two of adapting Helen Shrimpton’s Sacred Space Blanket design using sturdy Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton yarn (colors include Camel, Chambray, Ecru, Silver, and Admiral)

After a long streak of making crochet bags and pouches, diving into a detailed mandala for the first time has been an incredibly grounding reset. It reminded me exactly why I love these intricate pieces—the complex stitches and constant counting require a level of deep focus that becomes my ultimate meditative state.

For day two, the color progression is flowing beautifully into a rich, warm outer border. Letting the color choices happen organically instead of overanalyzing the layout has made the stitching process completely stress-free and calming.
