Sunset Bloom Carryall Clutch

Completed June 2026

This pink and orange crochet Carryall Clutch features a textured modified moss stitch. It's the perfect size for an everyday statement accessory. Given its generous size and stable, flat bottom, it easily doubles as a spacious travel organizer or an on-the-go yarn project bag. The entire design was inspired by a gorgeous floral fabric I found at a local secondhand craft shop. After sewing the fabric into a spacious, flat-bottom zippered pouch, I picked out coordinating shades of cotton, weight 4 yarn to match the print perfectly.

To attach the crochet exterior seamlessly, I started by making a foundation chain measured to wrap perfectly around the top of the bag, then hand-sewed it down using a simple needle and thread. From there, I was able to crochet the body directly into that attached foundation chain, working my way down in the modified moss stitch. Because the sewn pouch acts as a heavy-duty, built-in lining, I didn't have to carry the unused yarn colors inside the stitches. Letting the strands float loosely across the back saved so much time, and they are permanently hidden out of sight behind the colorful floral fabric.

When I reached the bottom, I used a fantastic tutorial to crochet a separate, flat rectangular panel customized to the exact size of the bag's base. I made sure the perimeter of the rectangle matched the bag's stitch count perfectly, then joined them seamlessly using a needle and yarn with a clean whip stitch. I finished it with a matching orange and white wristlet strap that makes it the ultimate hands-free bag for beach days.
